YOU CAN NOT FORGET THESE FAVORITE TOYS…
WHATEVER & WHEREVER YOU ARE NOW…

Spoon

(This is a Spoon made from a leaf of the Jackfruit tree, with a small stick pinned to hold it together, was used (even now by some elders) for having Kanjji. This leaf also had a medicinal value and was put in hot water meant for bathing)

KILUKKI

(A Spinning device, Basically this is made from a very tiny coconut and broom sticks (also made from coconut palm leaves) this is not a complete picture.  There would be another stick across the ring on which this toy would be spun around.)

KANNADAKA

(Self explanatory, this specs is made from palm leaf and the palm stick)

PIPI

(Made from coconut palm leaf this is a whistle)

HAVU

(A snake toy made from two strands of coconut palm leaf)

WIND FAN

(Wind fan, made from coconut palm leaf – I still remember how we used to run holding this high in the hand- We had also invented a different version of this which was more perfect and made a whizzing sound as it rotated)

WATCH

(watch made out of coconut palm leaf- We also used to make a very tiny version of this to represent a finger ring)

Apart from these, we used to make a telephone using two match boxes attached with a long thread.

These and many others will remain monuments of a wonderful time where toys were shared, or made instantaneously for smaller ones, a time when human beings were more social beings and when man was closer to nature .

It is the thing which does not let you sleep”
