ಮೊದಲು ಚೀನಾ ದೇಶಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋದ.ಅಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಚರ್ಚಿಗೆ ಭೇಟಿ ಇತ್ತು ಚರ್ಚಿನ ಫೋಟೋ ತೇಗಿತಾ ಇರಬೇಕಾದ್ರೆ ಅಲ್ಲೊಂದು ಅಚ್ಚರಿ ಕಾಣಿಸ್ತು. ಗೋಡೆ ಒಂದರ ಮೇಲೆ ಬಂಗಾರದ ಫೋನ್ ಒಂದನ್ನು ತೂಗು ಹಾಕಿದ್ರು. ಫೋನ್ ಪಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲೇ ಒಂದು ಬೋರ್ಡ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ’ಒಂದು ಕರೆಗೆ ಒಂದು ಸಾವಿರ ಡಾಲರುಗಳು’ ಅಂತ ಬರೆದಿತ್ತು! ಅಮೇರಿಕದ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗೆ ಅಚ್ಚರಿಯಾಯಿತು. ಪಾದ್ರಿ ಬಳಿ ಕೇಳಿದ. ’ಇದು ಸ್ವರ್ಗಕ್ಕೆ ಕರೆ ಮಾಡೋಕೆ ಇರೋ ಫೋನು, ಒಂದು ಲಕ್ಷ ಡಾಲರು ಕೊಟ್ಟು ದೇವರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮಾತನಾಡಬಹುದು’ ಎಂಬ ಉತ್ತರ. ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗೆ ಅತ್ಯಾಶ್ಚರ್ಯ ಆಯ್ತು. ತನ್ನ ಪ್ರವಾಸದ ಕೊನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ಬಂದು ಒಮ್ಮೆ ದೇವರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಕಷ್ಟ-ಸುಖ ಹೇಳ್ಕೋಬೇಕು ಅಂತ ಅಂದುಕೊಂಡು ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಚರ್ಚು ಚರ್ಚು ತಿರುಗ್ತಾ ಜಪಾನಿಗೆ ಹೋದ.

Golden Telephone

ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಚರ್ಚಿಗೆ ಹೋದ್ರೆ ಅಲ್ಲೂ ಚೀನಾದಲ್ಲಿ ನೋಡಿದ ಫೋನ್ ತರಹದ್ದೇ ಫೋನ್ ಇಟ್ಟಿದ್ರು! ಮೇಲೊಂದು ಬೋರ್ಡ್ ’ಒಂದು ಕರೆಗೆ ಒಂದು ಸಾವಿರ ಡಾಲರ್ ಮಾತ್ರ’. ‘ಇದು ದೇವರಿಗೆ ಕಾಲ್ ಮಾಡೋಕಿರೋದಾ?’ ಅನುಮಾನ ಬಂದು ಭಕ್ತರನ್ನು ಒಬ್ಬರನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದ. “ಹೌದು ಹೌದು, ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಕೌಂಟರ್ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಹಣ ಕೊಟ್ಟು ಕೂಪನ್ ತಗೋಳಿ”. ’ಓ, ಜಪಾನ್‍ನಲ್ಲೂ ಈ ಸೌಲಭ್ಯ ಇದೆ’ ಅಂದುಕೊಂಡು ಅಮೇರಿಕಾದ ಲೇಖಕ ಮುಂದುವರೆದ.
ಅಮೇರಿಕಾದ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗೆ ಆಮೇಲೆ ಗೊತ್ತಾದದ್ದು ಏನಂದ್ರೆ ಎಲ್ಲ ದೇಶದ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಚರ್ಚುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಸೌಲಭ್ಯ ಕಲ್ಪಿಸಿದಾರೆ ಅಂತ.
ಹೀಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ದೇಶದ ಚರ್ಚುಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ದಾಖಲಿಸುತ್ತಾ ಅಮೇರಿಕನ್ ಲೇಖಕ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಭಾರತಕ್ಕೂ ಬಂದ.

ಭಾರತದ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಚರ್ಚೊಂದನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ಹೊರಗಡೆ ಬರುತ್ತಾ ಇರಬೇಕಾದ್ರೆ ಪಕ್ಕನೆ ನೆನಪಾಯಿತು. ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲೂ ಬಂಗಾರದ ಫೋನ್ ಇದೆಯ ಅಂತ. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕಣ್ಣು ಹಾಯಿಸಿದ ಮೇಲೆ ಮೂಲೆಲಿ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಯೇ ಬಿಡ್ತು.
ಹತ್ತಿರ ಹೋಗಿ ನೋಡಿದ್ರೆ ಯಥಾಪ್ರಕಾರ ಬೋರ್ಡ್ ಒಂದು ಇತ್ತು. ಆದರೆ ಅದರ ಮೇಲೆ ಬರೆದಿದ್ದು “ಒಂದು ಕರೆಗೆ ಒಂದು ರೂಪಾಯಿ” ಅಮೇರಿಕನ್‍ಗೆ ಹೊಟ್ಟೆ ತೋಳಸೋ ಅಷ್ಟು ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯ ಆಯಿತು. ’ಇದು ದೇವರಿಗೆ ಕರೆ ಮಾಡೋಕೆ ಇಟ್ಟ ಫೋನಾ?’ ಪಾದರಿಗಳನ್ನ ಕೇಳಿದ. “ಹೌದು ಮಗು”. ’ಎಲಾ! ಉಳಿದ ದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಲಕ್ಷ ಡಾಲರ್ ಇರೋದು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಬರಿ ಒಂದು ರುಪಾಯಿ?!’ ಯಾಕೆ ಸುಮ್ಮನೆ ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಲಿಟ್ಗೊಂಡು ಸಂಕಟ ಪಡೋದು ಅಂತ ಪಾದರಿಗಳನ್ನ ಕೇಳಿದ. ” ನಾನು ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆ ದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇದೇ ತರಹದ ಫೋನ್ ನೋಡಿದಿನಿ. ಅಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲ ಒಂದು ಕರೆಗೆ ಒಂದು ಲಕ್ಷ ಡಾಲರ್ ಚಾರ್ಜ್ ಮಾಡ್ತ ಇದಾರೆ. ಇಲ್ಯಾಕೆ ಬರಿ ಒಂದು ರೂಪಾಯಿ?”

ಪಾದರಿ ತಣ್ಣನೆ ಸ್ವರದಲ್ಲಿ ಉತ್ತರಿಸಿದರು…

ಓದುಗರೇ ಉತ್ತರ ಏನಿರಬಹುದು.. ಊಹಿಸಿ ನೋಡೋಣ…

“ಓ ಅದಾ.. ಇಂಡಿಯಾದಿಂದ ಸ್ವರ್ಗ ಲೋಕಲ್ ಕಾಲ್ ಅಲ್ವಾ.. ಅದ್ಕೆ ಬರಿ ಒಂದು ರುಪಾಯಿ”!!!

One night the winds raged,clouds burst n a gale force storm capsized a  fishing boat at sea.
Stranded n in trouble, crew sent out the S.O.S.
The captain of the rescue rowboat team sounded alarm and villagers assembled in the town square overlooking the bay.
While the team launched their rowboat n fought their way through the wild  waves, the villagers waited restlessly on the beach, holding lanterns to light the way back..

An hour later, the rescue boat reappeared through the fog and the cheering villagers ran to greet them.
Falling exhausted on the sand, the volunteers reported that the rescue boat could not hold any more passengers and they had to leave one man behind.
Even one more passenger would have surely capsized the rescue boat and all would have been lost.
Frantically, the captain called for another volunteer team to go after the lone survivor..

Sixteen-year-old Hans stepped forward..
His mother grabbed his arm, pleading,
“Please don’t go..Ur father died in a shipwreck 10 years ago and your older brother, Paul, has been lost at sea for three weeks.
Hans, you are all I have left.”

Hans replied, “Mother, I have to go. What if everyone said, ‘I can’t go, let someone else do it?’ Mother, this time I have to do my duty.
When the call for service comes, we all need to take our turn and do our part.”

Hans kissed his mother, joined the team and disappeared into the night.
Another hour passed, which seemed to Hans’ mother like an eternity.

Finaly, rescue boat darted through the fog with Hans standing up in the bow.
Cupping his hands, the captain caled, “Did you find the lost man?”

Barely able to contain himself, Hans excitedly yeled back,

“Yes, we found him.
Tell my mother it’s my older brother, Paul”

‘Why do we shout in anger?’

A Guru asked his followers, ‘Why do we shout in anger? Why do people shout at each other when they are upset?’

His followers thought for a while, one of them said, ‘Because we lose our calm, we shout for that.’

‘But, why do you shout when the other person is just next to you?’ asked the guru. ‘Isn’t it possible to speak to him or her with a soft voice? Why do you shout at a person when you’re angry?’

Followers gave some other answers but none satisfied the guru.

Finally he explained, ‘When two people are angry at each other, their hearts distance a lot. To cover that distance they must shout to be able to hear each other.

The angrier they are, the stronger they will have to shout to hear each other through that great distance.’

Then the guru asked, ‘What happens when two people fall in love? They don’t shout at each other but talk softly, why?

Because their hearts are very close.

The distance between them is very small…’

The guru continued, ‘When they love each other even more, what happens? They do not speak, only whisper and they get even closer to each other in their love.

Finally they even need not whisper, they only look at each other and that’s all.

That is how close two people are when they love each other.
